In Chip’s collection, you’ll find a diverse selection of homes from Asheville to Lake James – upscale cabins nestled in the treetops, high-end mountain sanctuaries in highly-desired private communities, and opulent lakefront getaways. Enjoy the privacy of your secluded slice of paradise while still having the convenience of proximity to Asheville and the surrounding quaint mountain towns.

Upscale mountain homes boast wrap-around decks that showcase long-range mountain views and outdoor living rooms with luxurious finishes that take screened-in porches to another level. Grand homes on the lake feature fire pits, private docks, and 7-person hot tubs on quiet tree-lined coves.

Inside, you’ll find soaring ceilings with exposed white pine beams, rustic chic design elements, luxe furnishings, and carefully cultivated decor that emphasizes the majestic surroundings. Handmade King-sized beds with luxurious memory foam mattresses and antique claw foot tubs adorn bedroom suites. Sleek and inviting open-concept kitchens and living rooms boast stunning designs and are impeccably furnished with high-end leather seating centered around dramatic stone fireplaces.

With endless possibilities for exploration in the Asheville area and some homes granting access to the incredible amenities in high-end, gated communities, the modern luxuries of these homes are just the icing on the cake. Sonos sound systems, enormous Smart TVs, gourmet kitchens, fun-filled game rooms, outdoor living and dining rooms, and all the extras make a stay in one of Chip’s homes a dream vacation.

In 1995, Chip Craig was a banker in Charlotte, tired of the corporate grind. In an effort to change his life and pursue his love of the outdoors, he moved to the Asheville area to work at North Carolina Outward Bound and eventually became the Director of Marketing. Chip discovered that he loved living in Asheville and knew he needed to find a career path that would provide satisfaction and allow him to live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains he loved.

Luckily, Chip would find his calling. While renovating his own home, he rented another in the area. Seeing what was involved with managing the property, he was inspired to start his own property management company. In 1999, Chip sent out letters to homeowners in Montreat, a small mountain town outside of Asheville, hoping to win them over. Of course, he did win them over, and Greybeard Vacation Rentals was born.

Today, Chip and his team manage close to 300 vacation rentals and 440 long-term rentals in 9 counties from Asheville to Lake James. With a team-oriented culture and positive, supportive environment, Greybeard boasts virtually no turnover with its local staff. And that extends to their homeowners and guests as well, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service. They always strive to improve, using each complaint, no matter how small, as a chance to learn and grow, ensuring that guests stay with them time and time again.

Frequently giving back to the community and sponsoring local causes, Chip’s love for the Asheville area and his company’s dedication to philanthropy is apparent. Incredibly involved in the community himself, Chip also serves as a member of the United Way Board of Directors and is a past member of Buncombe County Board of Education, Buncombe County Tourism and Development Authority, and town commissioner for the Town of Montreat. When he’s not working, you’ll find Chip spending time with his family, trail running, and doing virtually anything outside in the beautiful Asheville area.
