Hike in Smoky Mountain National Park and ski Ober MountainWhen Tom Goodwin met and married Susan Egli, he was mostly unfamiliar with Gatlinburg and the hospitality industry. As he spent more time there with his wife and her parents, Dot and Ralph, Tom developed a deep love and appreciation for the city and its people. Dot and Ralph were pioneers in the area’s vacation rental industry; after years of managing properties for friends who were out of town, they officially opened Mountain Laurel Chalets in 1972. Decades of consistent hard work and personal integrity ultimately helped their brand become the premier property management company in the area.
Over the years, Tom watched his in-laws faithfully serve their owners and guests, and as a result, began to develop his own passion for the hospitality industry. Because he had fallen in love with hospitality and was already a part of the family business, Tom was able to step in and provide leadership that honors the foundation and legacy built by Dot and Ralph.
From homes bursting with amenities and thoughtful extras that surprise and delight guests to faithful donations to nonprofit organizations over the last 50 years, Mountain Laurel Chalets works to ensure every homeowner, guest, staff member, and community member is celebrated and made to feel like family. Today, over five decades after the company was founded, Tom and Susan maintain its reputation for extra-mile service, friendliness, and generosity, guided by a passion for their staff, owners, and guests alike.
