When Tom Goodwin met and married Susan Egli, he was mostly unfamiliar with Gatlinburg and the hospitality industry. As he spent more time there with his wife and her parents, Dot and Ralph, Tom developed a deep love and appreciation for the city and its people. Dot and Ralph were pioneers in the area’s vacation rental industry; after years of managing properties for friends who were out of town, they officially opened Mountain Laurel Chalets in 1972. Decades of consistent hard work and personal integrity ultimately helped their brand become the premier property management company in the area.
