The desert landscapes of southern Utah are some of the most beautiful in the world, and St. George is one of the best jumping-off points to enjoy the views. But, while the landscape is certainly incredible, there are so many more top-rated things to do in St. George. In addition to taking in the scenic views, be sure to add these must-do activities to your schedule.

Our first suggestion does lean heavily into the beauty of the area, but you won't regret the drive up to Snow Canyon State Park. It's only 20 minutes away from central St. George and boasts some amazing landscapes and exciting adventures. Here are just a few things you can do in the park:

There are lots of places to hike around St. George, but none pack quite the same punch as the Petrified Dunes. The 1.2-trail takes you toward magical sand dunes and up to an overlook point where you can view the rolling, rocky landscape from above.

The Lava Flow Trailhead is perfect for those who want to see some ancient geology for themselves. This moderate-difficulty trail is 2.5 miles long and follows a 27,000-year-old lava flow. Not only will you see remarkable rock formations, but you'll also find thriving plant life along the way.

If you love nature but you aren't too keen on a hike, don't miss Red Hills Desert Garden. This St. George attraction is close to town and showcases some of the wonderful plant life the region has to offer. There are dozens of different flowers, cacti, and trees throughout the garden, which goes to show just how much can thrive in a water-efficient landscape.

Plants aren't the only thing you'll find here--the garden is also home to several boulders imprinted with dinosaur tracks. These boulders were found locally and are over 200 million years old. How exciting to walk alongside the dinosaurs!

How do you feel about arts and crafts? It's not just for kids, and it's more than messing with some clay! At The Gem Studio, you can learn to be a silversmith, make your own charms, or pick out a beautiful piece of permanent jewelry.

The St. George location requires an advance booking to attend a workshop, but making an appointment will be worth the effort! This is a fun and unique activity for any girls' trip, couples outing, or just a solo date by yourself. If you're on a time crunch, you can always shop their ready-to-wear selection.

Go Climbing at Pioneer Park

You'll see Pioneer Park mentioned on so many lists of St. George attractions, and for good reason! This 52-acre community park is just north of town but captures the beauty of a much more isolated area. From Dixie Rock, you can catch beautiful views of the area and try out your climbing skills. You can always add a quick hike to Boy Scout Cave onto your rock climbing adventure if you really want to go the extra mile.

Prefer a more relaxed trip to the park? Find a spot at a pavilion and cook up some barbecue. You'll find the Red Hills Desert Garden at the same address, so we recommend combining these attractions!

Where's your favorite concert venue? You might have seen shows in small, smoky rooms as well as large stadiums. But have you ever seen live music against a stunning desert backdrop?

The Tuacahn Amphitheatre hosts all kinds of concerts just in front of 1,500-foot red rock cliffs. Grab tickets to the next rock show, or watch the calendar to see when your favorite Broadway shows will be playing. The outdoor amphitheatre stages classics like The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz, and so much more.

Spend a Day on the Water at Sand Hollow State Park

Head about a half-hour east of St. George to spend a day soaking up the sun at Sand Hollow State Park. While southern Utah might be mostly desert, you'll also find little oases with several water activities.

You can rent a boat or jet ski via the park's very own rental partner, or get your hands on smaller vessels like canoes, tubes, and kayaks. If you really want to make the most of your day on the water, visit the Dive Shack to rent scuba equipment or take your very first class.

Hiking and getting back to nature are popular ways to vacation in the desert, but they certainly aren't the only top-rated things to do in St. George! You can spend your days on the reservoir or stay in town and enjoy the Gem Studio's workshops. No matter your vacation plans, get your accommodation squared away with Red Rock Vacation Rentals. Their luxury homes will have you coming up with reasons to extend your stay in Utah.
