With a population of just a few hundred people, Suches is a haven for couples who want to escape the hustle and bustle while still being close enough to their favorite amenities. Sometimes, there are few things better than slowing down with your partner, and giving yourself space to explore the wide world around you, whether it’s a new restaurant, trail, or road. Here, we’ll look at how to map out the many adventures of your romantic getaway.
Visit a Waterfall

Waterfalls are inherently calming and charming, setting the mood for a memorable sunrise, picnic, or twilight. On your Suches trip for couples, make some time to drink in the sights as you watch the waters tumble down.
Fortunately, Suches is home to or near a few different waterfalls:
- Anna Ruby: Easy to get to and full of picnic tables, Anna Ruby Falls is just a short 0.8 mile hike from the visitor center in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. The falls are open all-year-round, though you will need to pay an admission fee to access the trail.
- Sea Creek: Located in the Cooper Creek Recreation Area, this 30-foot waterfall is easily accessible off Highway 60 (though you may need to keep your eyes peeled for the entrance). We recommend exploring Sea Creek to the fullest, so you may want to bring water shoes and get your feet wet. This hike is extremely easy at just 0.5 miles out and back.
- Amialola Falls: This waterfall is close to the Appalachian Trail and the namesake of the state park. It’s 729-feet of cascading water, making it the third-highest waterfall east of the Mississippi.
Visit Sosebee Cove

GA Hwy. 180, Blairsville GA 30512
This trail near Suches is not always well-kept, but it is short enough that you should make it through with a nothing but a pair of sturdy hiking boots and pants. If you’re looking for an isolated haven, this lush section in the forest would make a good addition to your Anna Ruby waterfall visit. While you can see Georgia's flora and fauna from anywhere, Sosebee Cove is a particularly standout spot when you visit the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.
The path is known for its wildflowers, including the Yellow Poplar, and it was the favorite of the (locally famous) Barefoot Ranger, Arthur Woody, who worked in the park in the first half of the 20th century. As you wander along, you might spot anything from grouse to bears while out and about.
Stop for a Bite at Two Wheels

1915 Hwy 60, Suches, GA
Two Wheels is more than just a small-town restaurant, it’s a motorcycle enthusiasts' dream come true. Not only is it located in a secluded area, making it perfect for lovebirds who want to get off the beaten path, there's (usually) plenty of action during operating hours.
New bikes come and go, friends meet up, and hikers and campers of every variety stop for fuel. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Two Wheels offers classic American fare, like pancakes, eggs, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and burgers. The service is friendly and casual, and we highly recommend chatting up the bikers about where they're headed.
Sample Farm-to-Table Flavors at The Sawmill Place

1150 Pat Haralson Drive, Blairsville, GA 30512
The Sawmill Place contracts with nearby farms, including Hidden Creek, Big Branch Valley, Logan Turnpike Mill, and 7M. The farm-to-table movement is more than just a trendy term, it's a way to really dig into the land that you're visiting. When every blade of grass and soil morsel impacts the food on your plate, it pays to pay attention to the source.
The Sawmill Place is built on Southern specialties, including roasted pork tenderloin, pecan pancakes, brisket hash, and country ham biscuits. Drawing out the best of the mountain farmlands, The Sawmill Place is a unique place to visit, especially if you’re looking for a little nostalgia and a lot of local flavor.
Grab a Drink at Kennedy Creek Tavern

3001 High Valley Rd, Suches, GA 30572
Suches is known for its natural beauty, but it’s not exactly known for its nightlife. If you’re looking for the only place in town with a liquor license, then Kennedy Creek Tavern offers beer, wine, and spirits to the thirsty couple.
Plus, if you get hungry, the tavern has a basic menu of appetizers and entrées to tide you over, including pulled pork, pasta, and sandwiches. As rustic as it is friendly, it’s a great place to learn a little more about local culture, whether you stop in for a quick drink or while away the evening chatting with one another over a few libations.
Take a Day Trip

Intersection of Hwy. 515 and Hwy. 5, Blue Ridge, GA
If you start in Blue Ridge, GA, you can take a day trip around some of the most storied locations in the Suches area. Known as the Suches It Is Loop, you can get a better sense of why they call this small town the Valley Above the Clouds. You'll undoubtedly have seen some of these places from the drive in, but this loop can stretch you into parts unknown.
As you roll along, you can check out the Swinging Bridge of the Toccoa River, the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery, Lake Winfield Scott, Skeenah Mill, and Vogel State Park. While the loop itself along Highway 60 is just 76 miles, you can easily turn into a full day’s worth of activities.
Check Out the Treetop Courses

Ziplining is a popular activity in this section of the country, thanks to not just the greenery, but the positioning and height of the forest’s many trees. Available at both Unicoi and Amicalola Falls, ziplining is not only a great way to get your heart racing amid all the natural beauty, it’s also a great way to bond with one another as you launch off into the unknown.
All ziplining activities are overseen by attentive guides who make the trek that much more interactive and fun. These guides are also fountains of tips if you’re looking for another activity in the forest or around town.
Suches may be small, but it's worth the time it takes to explore. Whether you spend most of your time indoors or out, you'll have a front-row seat to the town's breathtaking beauty. Couples who come here during one season may just find themselves coming back every season to explore and discover the ever-changing delights of the high country.
If you're looking for luxury accommodations in the Suches and Blairsville area, the 100 Collection highly recommends SVR Properties, our local rental partner. With hot tubs, grills, covered sun decks, fire pit, and, of course, stunning mountain views, you can take your romantic trip for two to the next level with everything from fireside movie nights to romantic home-cooked meals.
